E-MAIL SUBMISSIONS ONLY. Please pay close attention to the instructions.

They are seeking 60-70-panel scripts. All submissions should be typewritten and double-spaced. Prior to sending a script, please submit a detailed outline.

All outlines should be between 2 and 3 single-spaced pages. Your outline should include location descriptions and where in the story romantic interactions between the protagonists occur.

Outlines should be sent in the body of an e-mail message or as an attachment. If sending as an attachment, we prefer that the file be saved as a Microsoft Word document. They can accept another program if the file is saved in Rich Text Format (RTF).

interested in: Arrow Publications, LLC, a 21-year-old publishing company based in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, is the publisher of MyRomanceStory.com, a new venture in romantic-suspense novellas/Graphic Novels that is growing in popularity among romance fiction and graphic novel reads.

Audience
The audience for these stories is women of all ages. This is an international market that spans many socio-economic areas.

Theme
Generally, they are looking for romantic, passionate character-driven stories with a strong element of adventure and/or suspense. The adventure/suspense element must be credible and an integral part of the plot, not an obvious add-on. Elements of humor and mystery are also welcome. The romance element should be at least 60 percent of the overall plot.

They will also consider other romance genres including fantasy, romantic comedy, chick lit, and historical as long as the romance element is strong.

Plot
Good storytelling, dialogue and pacing are musts. There should be two or three passionate, intimate encounters between the hero and the heroine. Use secondary characters only insofar as they advance the plot. The ending should be happy and emotionally satisfying, all loose ends of the plot tied up.

The protagonists may be of any ethnic origin, nationality or age the author chooses. Liaisons may be of mixed ethnic/nationality/age groups. The hero is usually wealthy, smart and powerful.

There should be sexual tension, as well as believable conflict, between the protagonists. The heroes and heroines must display spirit, yet be vulnerable. Perfect people are boring. Write a heroine that readers will like and a hero they will love.

Setting
The overall setting should be whatever the story calls for, preferably glamorous or interesting locales. Since this is a visual medium, there should be some variety of locations throughout the script. Action taking place in a one-room apartment might be rich in drama, but will be visually boring.

Style
The story should be written from the point of view of the heroine and/or hero, and a third-person narrator where appropriate. Each panel should have either dialogue or narrative to move the story along.

Because these stories are drawn, writers should keep a visual concept in mind and pay special attention to art description and dialogue. Dialogue should be lively and believable. Writing should be also be succinct so as not to overshadow the artwork. Use narrative to bring out feelings and emotions. It is not necessary to repeat in the narrative something that the artwork will show.

E-mail submissions only.

Your query should include a brief (up to 1 page) synopsis of the book in the body of the email, along with the genre(s) you believe best fits your book, and a brief bio of your writing credits (if any).

Attach the first 1-3 chapters of your book via attached mail in Word (.doc or .rtf) format ONLY. Any other formats will automatically disqualify your submission, though you are welcome to resubmit with the right attachment file. DO NOT SEND A DIFFERENT FILE FOR EACH CHAPTER - ZIP FILES ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED. Label the file using title of the book, abbreviated, if necessary. Be sure to include your name and email address on the first page of the attached file so you can more easily be contacted. If we like your work, we will ask you to send the entire manusript via attached mail, along with the description, your professional bio, an author pic (if you have one) and the cover (again, if you have one) and any reviews.

You must have completed the work you're sending us or have a solid completion date at the time you send in your query. The only exception would be a series; only the first in the series must be completed at the time of submission, but a tentative schedule for completion of the next in the series will be expected. They do accept queries inquiring if a certain type of work is suitable for publication with us.

Make sure your manuscript is edited and polished to a highly professional standard. A manuscript full of errors is a mark of the amateur and will be rejected out-of-hand.SynergEbooks also reserves the right to drop any title that needs more than the basic line editing during the publication process.

- When you send your submission in .doc or .rtf format, DON't use fancy formats (Times New Roman or Arial font preferred). Submit the manuscript as ONE document, not a separate file for each chapter or section. OUTLINES ARE NOT NECESSARY.

interested in: Quartet Press is currently accepting queries for all genres of romance fiction, including erotic romance. Strong, engrossing stories featuring great characters and solid plots. Trends come and go, but good novels live forever. Focus on storytelling, character development, and solid plotting. For stories that fall into the “erotic romance” arena, sex scenes must be integral to the story. In any work, actually, the developing sexual relationship should be a natural extension of the story.

Please query first. You must query by e-mail. When you do so, please put QUERY in the subject line.

Due to the overwhelming amount of spam e-mail received, subject lines that have manuscript titles often do not reach the editors.

Your query should be brief, no more than a two-page description of your book. Do not send chapters or a full synopsis at this time.

Also, NO ATTACHMENTS —THEY WILL NOT BE OPENED. You will receive a response—either a decline or a request for more material—in approximately one to two weeks.

interested in: Avon Books is a romance imprint of HarperCollins. Right now Avon is looking for romances in several areas:

HISTORICAL ROMANCE (90,000—100,000 words)
At Avon, we're seeking deliciously romantic historical novels for all parts of the list. These are love stories set primarily in Great Britain before 1900, and they are filled with all the promise—and passion—that Avon readers expect.

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE (90,000—100,000 words)
We seek stories of emotional complexity, written by authors with unique voices. Books with humor, drama, romantic suspense—all types and tones can be right for Avon. If your manuscript is exciting, electrifying, and exceptional we want to know more.

PARANORMAL ROMANCE (90,000—100,000 words)
Vampires, werewolves, and witches, oh my! We are seeking all types of paranormal romance, contemporary or historical. The darker the better.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN ROMANCE (90,000 words)
We are actively seeking romance with African-American heroes and heroines. These should be contemporary or historical love stories of approximately 90,000-100,000 words, set in the United States. This is not a ‘line.’ Each author will be packaged, and developed, individually. So, if your manuscript has the unforgettable emotion, irresistible characters (especially the hero), and sizzling sensuality that are hallmarks of Avon romance, please send us a query e-mail right away.

EROTICA (short stories 25,000—40,000 words/novels 80,000—90,000 words)
We are so excited to be at the forefront of this up-and-coming genre. The sexier the better is our motto. Avon Red began with two anthologies and we've now built up to 80,000 - 90,000 steamy one story novels. There are no holds barred in these super sensual stories. We're looking for more sexy novels and novellas, so, if we're going to need a cold shower after reading your manuscript, please send your query letter via e-mail today!

AVON A (60,000—90,000 words)
Avon A publishes general commercial women's fiction as well as quality nonfiction books that readers can relate to and get something out of. Both historical and contemporary stories are welcome. Our Avon A authors include Meg Cabot, Jacqueline Sheehan, and Tracy Grant.

INSPIRE (60,000—90,000 words)
Inspire is a new line of inspirational romances from Avon Books. These stories and their characters are primarily Christian, and promote traditional values and beliefs. They also are first and foremost stories of the heart, romantic novels about learning to trust; to open ourselves to love, not only to the men in our lives, but ultimately to God. Set in America, both contemporary and historical settings will be considered, as will romantic suspense and romantic comedy. There should be no alcohol, drug use, or premarital sex for the main characters. For non-Christian characters, these subjects can be explored but primarily to show their destructive nature and how a virtuous life is the better path. Foul language should be avoided at all costs.
