For novels, authors should send in about three chapters (or up to 30 pages) and a synopsis or outline of the rest of the book. They always appreciate a brief bio in your cover letter. Please keep in mind that they receive many unsolicited manuscripts, and that we do read all manuscripts. For this reason, they will not send out a response unless interested in publication. Therefore, if an author has not heard from them within eight to nine months of submitting a manuscript, it means there is no interest. Authors may submit to other publishers simultaneously.

Proposals submitted to Magination Press should include the following components:
- Brief synopsis: Provide a brief summary of the story. Be sure to specify the psychological issue or situation you are addressing.
- Complete manuscript: They do not accept proposals on the basis of a query letter or partial manuscript.
- Audience: Specify the intended age of the child reader, and the situations and uses you envision for the book.
- Market: What need does the book fill? What are the benefits to its readers? What are the other books available on this topic, and how is yours different and better? Is this book aimed at a school market? Therapists? Parents? Medical doctors? Other markets? All of the above? Please describe as thoroughly as possible.
- Author's credentials: Include a resume or curriculum vitae.
- Art work: They select illustrators and direct the art for the books. It is not necessary to submit dummy books or sample illustrations. However, if an illustration is telling part of the story, be sure to include a sketch or a description of the art in the manuscript. If you know an illustrator you might like to work with, you may include samples. If you are the illustrator as well as the author, please include art samples.
- Self-addressed stamped envelope.

interested in: Magination Press publishes psychology-based books covering a broad range of topics of concern to children. These include everyday situations, such as starting school and the growing family, as well as more serious psychological, clinical, or medical problems, such as divorce, depression, anxiety, asthma, attention disorders, bullying, death, and more.

The purpose of each Magination Press book is to provide:
- age-appropriate information on the topic
- identification and understanding of the child's feelings
- practical ideas for coping with and/or resolving the problem and its attendant emotions

Magination Press books are distinguished by their psychological and emotional accuracy and complexity. We are as interested in the child's inner experience of the problem as its practical resolution. We want to see the evolution of the child's feelings, expressed in his or her thoughts. There should be no magical solutions but a realistic working-out of the problem and an emotional coming to terms with it. No parenting books.

The coping and resolution suggestions must also be comprehensive. They are not interested in proposals that offer a single, albeit charming or clever, solution.

They publish several types of books:
- Picture books for children up to age 8
- Illustrated readers for children ages 8 to 12
- Interactive books, usually for school-age children
- Nonfiction books for older children

interested in: Kane/Miller Book Publishers is a division of EDC Publishing, specializing in award-winning children's books from around the world. They are looking for non-fiction for ages 2-12 on those subjects which are particularly American: sports such as baseball, historical events, American biographies, American folk tales, etc.

A child reading a Kane Miller book will see parallels between his own life and what might be the unfamiliar setting and characters of the story. And that by seeing how a character who is somehow or in some way dissimilar - an “outsider”- finds a way to fit comfortably into a culture or community or situation while maintaining a healthy sense of self and self-dignity, she might be empowered to do the same.

As a first step to submitting a manuscript, we recommend that you send (to the address below) a book proposal consisting of:

- A cover letter describing the work as a whole. Include all information that you think we should have in order to make a decision about your project. In particular, tell us who your target audience is and provide a rationale for why we are the best publisher for your work.
- An outline of the entire work and an estimate of the length of the prospective manuscript.
- One or two sample chapters. It is not necessary to send the entire manuscript, just enough material to give us a sense of the work as a whole.
- A brief bio describing who you are and why you are the right person to write this book.
- Your schedule to complete the book.
