Submissions will be accepted on just about any subject, but manuscripts must be well-written and fit in with the tone and spirit of Great Little Books.

All manuscripts should be double-spaced, with standard margins and on one-sided, numbered pages. There’s no need to bind your manuscripts. You can staple or paper clip if you want. Also, please include the name of your story and your name on every page.

You’ll need to send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your manuscripts. Great Little Books is a small press and can’t afford to return manuscripts to anyone who doesn’t send an envelope addressed to themselves that is stamped with the right postage. Sorry, but manuscripts that do not include a stamped, self-addressed envelope will not be returned to their authors.

Your submission should also include a cover letter with your contact information—name, street address, telephone number and email address. You can also send along your bio and any information about other pieces you’ve published or other credentials that are relevant to your story.

It takes a long time to read submissions and give them the attention they deserve, so it will take as much as six months for us to get back to you.

interested in: Great Little Books, LLC is an independent publisher located in Glen Rock, New Jersey. They’re in business to:

- Publish fiction—novels, children’s books, poetry and short stories—from new voices in traditional and new genres, and in new formats and across multiple mediums.
- Publish lifestyle and self-help books that grow out of the way people really live their lives and the support they need.
- Build a community of writers and readers, which includes reaching out to our readers for feedback, ideas and submissions.

While JBP accepts unsolicited/un-agented manuscripts, they will not consider simultaneous submissions given the number of manuscripts they receive. Because they review everything received, initial responses may take up to 60 days. Electronic submissions are preferred for first round reviews, but they may request a hardcopy if the proposal advances to the next level of consideration.

Book proposal should include each of the following:
- Project summary
- Status of the manuscript (Is the writing/photography complete?)
- Target audience
- Table of contents
- Two to three sample chapters
- Samples of illustrations, photographs, if appropriate
- Author(s) biographical description
- Marketing opportunities
- Indicate availability and ability to promote and market work
- Consider the marketplace. What kind of competition is out there?
- Indicate if the work is topical – is there an event, commemoration or other opportunity that makes the work especially relevant?
- Detail affiliations, groups, organizations with whom author has connections
- Offer marketing ideas

Sandlapper encourages writers to query by mail before submitting manuscripts. A query should introduce a book proposal and include a synopsis or outline of the work. The synopsis should include the main topics and viewpoints of the manuscript. If available include a table of contents. A query should also include the projects intended audience, the author’s writing and professional background, and any promotional ideas or suggestions the author may have. If the project is merely in the “idea stage”, please enclose other writing samples.

If they find your query of interest they will request the entire manuscript. Manuscripts should be typed and as free as possible of grammatical errors. Do not submit original material (art or manuscript). Include a SASE for a reply to your proposal. Materials unaccompanied by a SASE will not be returned.

interested in: Sandlapper Publishing is an independent, regional book publisher specializing in nonfiction books of history, travel, nature, culture, literature, cooking, photography and children's books. We have a special interest in trade and scholarly titles about our region. We do not publish fiction, poetry, family histories or personal memoirs.

What we are looking for: Nonfiction books about South Carolina.

Inspiring and informative books that include an unusual angle or different approach to providing readers with educational books about South Carolina. The purpose of the books is to educate the reader about the state.

Sandlapper prefers the content to cover the entire area of South Carolina rather than concentrating on one particular area. For example: Paddling South Carolina rather than Paddling the Edisto.

Works previously published will be considered. They strive to produce quality books that are promoted individually and marketed throughout the region.
